About me (Anthony Turcios)

Hi! I'm Anthony Turcios, a Software Developer, Systems Engineer, tutor, and teacher. I love going on hikes and traveling whenever I get the time. Here are a few images I took in 2023.

I started learning how to code during my senior year of high school (2015), and I absolutely hated it. Granted, the AP Computer Science A class was specifically designed to help students prepare for the AP exam. I came out of the course feeling disillusioned with Computer Science. Why did printing 'Hello, world!' require so much effort (read: The course was taught using Java)?

I took a stab at this 'Computer Science thing' during my sophomore year at Middlebury College, and I happily fell into the rabbit hole. I was particularly interested in the Systems Programming courses because each topic in those courses was part of my everyday life. For example, do you use a computer or the internet? That is only possible because of the work that systems programmers have put into your kernel and drivers.

I graduated with a Computer Science degree and landed a job at Amazon Web Services, where I worked as a Software Development Engineer on the AWS Single Sign-On team. My first job gave me a lot of experience that I will build on and rely on for years to come.

As much as building at AWS was fun, I grew increasingly interested in systems-oriented roles outside AWS. Many applications and interviews later, I landed a Systems Engineer position on Cloudflare's CDN team.

Today, I'm a Systems Engineer on Cloudflare's CDN team. I'm based in New York City and enjoy learning/writing about technology, old and new.
